"Hope for the best, but expect the worse." We all hope that it will never be us. The person lying in a hospital bed after a nearly fatal accident, clinging to life by a bare thread. The person who suffers from complications during an emergency surgery and requires a vital blood transfusion. The parent leaning over an incubator encasing their infant child who is fighting for their life. Just a few of the situations where a blood donation can be, quite literally, a matter of life or death. That person could be me. The person could be you. It most certainly has been at least one person you have known and loved in your lifetime.

To get started, you simply go to the Blood Centers of the Pacific website. Fill out the form---it only takes a few seconds, I promise---and you will be contacted by an individual from Blood Centers of the Pacific. They will be available to answer any questions, and get everything set up so you can schedule an appointment to make a donation of whole blood, platelets, or plasma (or all of the above!). You can donate with confidence knowing that Blood Centers of the Pacific has provided service to donors for 75 years, and has been an essential link between blood donors and patients in need. Your donation will take less than an hour, and you can leave knowing that your generosity will make a difference!
For every one time you are able to make a donation of blood, you are responsible for saving, not just one, but up to three lives. It is the perfect way to give back to your community, pay it forward, and do overall good! Charitable monetary donations are not a viable options for every family, as many may be living paycheck-to-paycheck. Becoming a blood donor is a way to participate in charity that does not cost a cent, while also providing our children with a great example of how we can always find ways to be involved and contribute to our community. Not to mention how beautiful it is to think that sharing a little piece of yourself, which can appear so small a thing, can change the lives of others. Go a step further and find a way to make donating all your own, and get others on board. For example, build excitement around it by making a party out of it and involve those you know and love by raising awareness of the need and importance of blood donations. Settle on a fun reward to participate in together after donating, whether it's a trip to the park, or treating yourself to a cupcake at the new bakery you've been eyeing! Talk to your family, friends, and neighbors.
Someone in the United States is in need of a blood transfusion every two seconds. That is an astounding 86,400 Americans, and together we can help. Become a part of the movement!
