Athlete’s foot is a very common infection of the skin that appears on feet or between toes.
Common symptoms of this infection are scaling, redness, itching and sometimes, small blisters, and even bleeding may appear. Although this problem is usually caused by fungal infection; there are other causes that can lead to it.

Medical term for this condition is tinea pedis. There are various types of fungus that can lead to athlete’s foot and they can be contracted in various places such as gyms, locker rooms, pools, pedicure salons or by using contaminated socks, shoes or clothes. Fungus can also be transferred through direct contact with other person. Most people get them after walking barefoot in areas where someone with athlete’s foot walked before them. At a public swimming pool, and gym or school locker rooms are just a few of the places where this can be a problem. If someone in your family has athlete's foot, it can easily spread, putting everyone else in your household at risk, too. It can easily be concluded that this infection usually affects athletes who are constantly wearing sneakers and have sweaty legs. This disease is also common for people in armed forces who are wearing closed shoes in tropical conditions. Have in mind that fungus cannot grow without proper environment (hot and humid). About 70% of people have this problem at one point in their life. Once treated, there is no guarantee that the infection will not resurface.

Many people suffering from this issue don’t have any symptoms and they even don’t realize that they are carrying fungus with them. Most of them think that they only have dry feet. Usual symptoms of this infection are itching and burning. Skin can often start scaling and in particularly severe cases, it can cause enormous pain and even bleeding. Rarely, athlete’s foot can lead to blisters.

In most of the cases, symptoms of this infection are barely noticeable. All we can see is some dry or strangely looking skin. Feet may appear more red than usual; there can also be some scaling on one or both feet. Commonly, the infection is localized on the bottom part of the foot. Space between fourth and fifth toes can also have some sort of moist, skin peeling or dry scaling. Nowadays, there are various, efficient drugs that can help us solve this problem. Ketoderm is regarded as one of the best in its own class, efficiently treating athlete’s foot, but other fungal infections as well. Medicine comes in a form of a cream and it should be applied on affected area for next 2 to 6 weeks depending on patient’s weight and age as well as type of fungus. In some cases, skin will not react as we would expect it to. In that case, treatment needs to be prolonged or revised. Formula for Happiness in the First Months with Baby

Parenthood in theory is one thing, but in reality it is quite another. It's so much more, in some good ways, and also in some not so great ways, too! It's not exactly an unknown fact that being a parent is exhausting---and being a parent to a newborn is even more so. But something you'll hear not even just first-time parents saying is that it's even harder than they expected.

Navigating parenthood with a newborn is even harder because of how much sleep you lose in those first three months or so. It's important to find a balance, and find the routine that works for your family. Here are just a few things that contribute to the formula for happiness in those first months with baby!

• Take all the help you can get. You never know what to expect from your little one prior to their arrival, because, of course, each baby is unique. Colic, jaundice, and acid reflux are a few unexpected things you may find yourself facing as a new parent, making things especially challenging. But even babies who don't experience anything out of the norm are a lot of work. My husband and I had no help with our son when he was born, since we had no family and few friends nearby. I can't stress enough how frustrating it is to have no help. I'd find myself going four days without even having 20 minutes to take a shower, and feeling even more frustrated as a result. Always take up family and friends on any offers to help cook, clean, run errands for you, etc---anything to help take a little of the load off so you can focus your energy elsewhere.


• Keep commitments to a minimum. Depending on the temperament of your baby, you may very well find that having anything more than the most essential commitments (such as check-ups for your little one) simply become to stressful. Don't overburden your schedule with lunch dates, play dates, or anything else that may end up only overwhelming you. The days where you can impulsively decide to go out for errands or activities and be out the door in less than 10 minutes are at an end. It varies from family to family, but in those early months it took me two hours to get my son ready for an outing of any length. That's a lot of extra work! You get your little one into the car seat and are about to head out when they suddenly have a diaper explosion. You change them out of their diaper and their clothes, and finally get them settled back into their car seat after cleaning them up. But now they won't stop crying because they're hungry, so you have to stop and feed them before making another attempt. Things like this will just keep on happening, and it always seems to occur just as you're trying to leave! Give yourself plenty of time to get out of the house and get to any appointments, figure out the times that are most realistic for you to get things done, and work around that.


• Try new things, and don't be discouraged. Some babies don't like being swaddled, some babies like to constantly feel movement while others can't stand baby swings, some babies like to be snug and close and others like their space. Don't be afraid to try different options for keeping your baby happy. What works for other little ones may not work for your baby and vise versa. But trying new things will help you find out what works for you, and you won't always find out whether something works when trying it out for the very first time. Feeding infants who are ready for food can be especially frustrating. They're often unwilling to try new foods at first and it can take introducing them to the same new food many times, and preparing it different ways, to finally get them interested. Persistence, persistence, persistence.


• Don't be too hard on yourself. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves as parents, even more so as first-time parents. When it truly hits you that this new, perfect, innocent little human being relies on you for each and every little thing, it seems to bring out the perfectionist in all of us. In needing to be your baby's everything, we can place unreasonable expectations on ourselves. You can be Super Mom, but you still can't do everything. Things happen. You're human, and that's okay. Try as you might, you won't be able to avoid your little one developing a rash, or getting scratches, bumps, or bruises. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that it isn't the end of the world. Everything is going to be fine!


• Take lots of pictures. You hear this one a lot, but it's true. Stay on top of taking pictures. In those first several months, your precious baby grows, changes, and evolves in the blink of an eye. You'll probably be too tired to notice for awhile, but when you look back at the photos you'll see a change in them even from day to day! So make it a priority to snap at least a few photos once a day for the first 6 months, even if you have no time to look at them or do anything with the photos until further down the road. You won't regret it.


• Be prepared for a lot of surprises! If you read any baby books, they can sometimes make it seem like all babies are the same. As you'll quickly discover, that couldn't be further from the truth. Your baby will surprise you every day, and you'll find that your baby will probably be completely different from those of your friends and family members. They are their own little person right from the start! Enjoy every minute of it. It's true what they say, those early days are gone in the blink of an eye.

There are two things that always top my list as far as time-consuming tasks go: cooking and cleaning.  Unfortunately there is no fairy godmother, and no magical slippers, or genie in a bottle that could ever deliver a clean home and healthy meals to our household instantly, and without my ever having to lift a finger. Despite the work involved, I cook the majority of our meals from scratch, knowing it's the best way to control the portion of each ingredient and also retain most of the nutritional value in the food. But it's hard to be exhausted at the end of the day from working, caring for a toddler, and cleaning. Yet I spend an average of three hours a day preparing the evening meal for my family. Maybe this even sounds familiar to you, too. Luckily, things just got a whole lot easier for me thanks to Instant Pot!

Instant Pot is an electrical pressure cooker that can reduce cooking time by up to 6x that of traditional cooking methods, and using up to 70% less energy! Invented in 1979 by a French physicist, pressure cookers control the amount of steam that escapes a sealed vessel, allowing for a rapid cooking process. Using the Instant Pot for the first time, I was shocked that I achieved perfect cooking results after following the simple instructions in the manual. Learning to use my stovetop pressure cooker came with quite a learning curve, and it required a lot of trial and error to perfect the cooking method. The frustration that naturally comes along with that was completely eliminated by the simple, straightforward functioning of the Instant Pot.

Having the Instant Pot made a dramatic impact on my routine in just the first month of use. I don't have to worry about supervising meals in the Instant Pot so they don't burn, or overcook. I can set the Instant Pot using the 12 turn-key function keys, then walk away and focus my attention elsewhere. For me, this means more quality time spent with my son that would otherwise be dedicated to standing in front of the stove monitoring the evening meal. I make it a priority to incorporate a lot of dried beans into our diet, due to the protein and fiber they offer, in addition to being extremely budget-friendly. I've found Instant Pot to make it easier than ever to pressure cook dried beans, and have been impressed with the perfect result of each batch. Simple, yet packed with nutritional value, this recipe is a household favorite. I have been making this dish for years, evolving the recipe over time until I was finally satisfied with the result. But it is more efficient and delicious than ever when I discovered how to make it using Instant Pot. All of these ingredients can be found at your local grocery destination, ordered online, or located at your closest Indian grocery store. I hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients

• 3 cups water
• 1 cup moong dal lentils
• 1 large roma tomato, chopped
• 1 medium zucchini, sectioned into bite-size pieces
• 1 packed cup spinach, chopped roughly
• 1/2 small onion, diced small
• 2 tsp turmeric powder
• 1 tbsp coconut oil or mustard oil (can also substitute with canola or other neutral oil)
• 1 tsp salt (or more to taste)
• 1 tsp cumin seeds
• 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
• 1/8 tsp asfoedita powder
• 1/4 tsp fresh ginger, grated
• pinch of cayenne pepper (or more to taste)
• 1/2 cup of hari (cilantro) chutney

Directions

Put the water, moong dal, tomato, zucchini, spinach, onion, and turmeric powder into the Instant Pot. Lock the Instant Pot lid securely and flip the venting switch to trap the steam inside while cooking. Set on Beans/Chili function. When cycle is complete, the dal should be mostly disintegrated, but still with some texture. If not the right consistency, which may be the case depending on the batch of beans and accuracy of measurements, add more water and repeat function if necessary. Once proper consistency is achieved, heat oil over high heat in a small saucepan for several minutes. Drop in a single cumin seed to test the oil. If the seed sizzles and cracks, add the cumin seeds and garam masala. Remove from heat. Stir in the asfoedita powder and cayenne. Pour over the dal and mix in, along with the fresh ginger and salt. Pour into serving bowls or onto plates and garnish with a spoon of hari chutney (or more to taste). Serve with rice, roti, or naan. Enjoy!
